Resistance Bands (“Uncoil” Drills)

Resistance Bands (“Uncoil” Drills)

Director of Player Development, Todd DeLamielleure, demonstrates how to incorporate resistance bands into Tip of the Spear “Uncoil” Drills.

Brace+Hop for Bridge & Pillar

The “Brace+Hop” drill trains players to uncoil their hips to drive their hands. A partner will apply pressure backwards forcing the player to brace+hop and uncoil their hips.

Fit to Finish Drill

The Fit to Finish drill reinforces players to close and climb with their hips after contact. Developing and training this skill combats the instinctual response of taking a long “greedy” step after contact.

Teeter Drill with Harness: Troubleshooting Errors

For most players, the missing link in understanding how to fully uncoil the hips is the “Teeter”. This drill uses a harness to allow players to feel and develop the slight teeter transition of weight prior to the uncoil.

Long Jump

The “Long Jump” is a Shape drill that emphasizes the importance of using the hips for power. Distance of the “Long Jump” is created by exploding and uncoiling the hips.
