Leverage is a term often used in football that coaches casually define as the “low man wins”. Tip of the spear has identified five key characteristics that make up the foundation of leverage, which we call the “Principles of Contact”. In it’s true application, playing with leverage is the synergistic result when all five principles are present.
The five “principles of contact”:
BASE – Playing with a triangular base
LONG – striking opponents with the hands at length
ASCEND – using the hips to apply ascending force
SQUARE – maintaining a square posture of strength
TRIANGULATE – attacking opponents off their midline
